Mario Kart VR Arrives in Washington DC
It's finally happening: The virtual reality (VR) version of one of Nintendo's most beloved kart racing titles is making its debut this week in our nation's capital, courtesy of Bandai Namco.
A VR Zone Portal opened yesterday at Union Station, a shopping center and major transportation hub that's a few blocks away from the National Mall. Bandai Namco's other VR Zone arcades already exist in Japan and England; the "Portal" designation for the DC location indicates that this VR Zone is smaller than its Japanese counterparts and probably a test run before larger VR Zones are built in the U.S.
The three VR games that are available at the portal are Mario Kart VR, Argyle Shift, and Ski Rodeo, and they each utilize the HTC Vive VR platform. From what I've heard, no reservations need to be made to play these games. However, the VR Zone Portal in DC is only a limited engagement and is currently slated to close sometime in March 2019. Check out the VR Zone Portal DC Facebook page for more details.
